Car-free or car-lite Montréal?

In case you missed it, there was a really good article in the Gazette yesterday about how Montréal could learn from innovative cities around the world regarding the place of the automobile in our city.

“Imagine you live in a truly car-free neighbourhood. No cars or trucks roaring down the street in front of your house. No cars parked along the curb.

You’ve just come home from work by subway. Your house is just a three-minute stroll from the station. As you relax on your front step with a cold drink, you watch the neighbourhood kids ride tricycles and kick soccer balls around on the street. Neighbours call greetings to you as they stroll along or ride by on their bicycles, with groceries for dinner in backpacks or baskets…”
